We have so many entry points to arriving at our body’s wisdom, sometimes this takes the form of a bodywork session, a coaching conversation or unexpectedly through a movement practice. Other times though, I find that insights and healing can be most deeply felt when they arrive spontaneously, in the quiet of our room while reading the right book that speaks to our heart.
I’ve found myself recommending more books to friends and clients over the years, so I hope this list will be helpful for you too.

1) The Highly Sensitive Person by Elaine Aron - an informative book that speaks to the qualities of being a highly sensitive person.
2) Childhood Disrupted: How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology by Donna Jackson Nazakawa - a sensitively written book that highlights how Adverse Childhood Experiences can have unexpected impacts on our adulthood.
3) Discovering the Inner Mother by Bethany Webster - a book that touches on a topic which is more common than most realise, and can often be a taboo to speak about, i.e. the wounding that can come from mother to daughter.
4) Belonging: Remembering Ourselves Home by Toko-pa - this is a book close to my heart and written so poetically, that touches on how fundamental a sense of belonging is to our well-being.
5) The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have by Mark Nepo - with a beautiful, short reflection, poem and meditation practice for every single day of the year, this is a companion for life.
6) Full Body Presence: Learning to Listen to Your Body’s Wisdom by Suzanne Scurlock-Durana - an easy-to-read practical guide that offers guidance on how to listen and be more present with our body and the wisdom it holds.
7) Untamed by Glennon Doyle - a personal exploration on coming into the truth of living authentically, with less inhibition of societal conditioning.
8) Mirrors in the Earth by Asia Suler - a beautifully written book that speaks to the interconnectedness we have with nature and the resourcing we can receive from nature.
9) The Wild Edge of Sorrow by Francis Weller - a richly poetic book that acknowledges the breadth of grief, the potency of allowing ourselves to feel it, along with the need for ritual and community to move through it.
10) Returning Home to our Bodies by Abigail Rose Clarke - a beautifully written book that combines scientific nuggets and moments of wonderment about our body with easy to follow body-oriented practices.
11) Heart-minded: How to hold yourself and others in love by Sarah Blondin - a poetic book that combines Sarah’s deeply felt sense of compassion and understanding of life, with practical suggestions to try.
12) The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron - this book can be wonderful for anyone who is feeling adrift, stuck in life or where your voice feels constrained. It guides you through twelve weeks of different themed prompts, with an invitation for a daily writing practice and weekly self-dates
